World’s first center for behavioral economics of breastfeeding endowed in Switzerland

Breastfeeding decisions are complex and multifactored, and they vary widely according to sociocultural contexts and personal circumstances. Similarly, breastfeeding abilities hinge on a range of practical factors.

Thus, The University of Zurich (UZH) and FLRF jointly established the Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center for Economics of Breastfeeding (LRF CEB) at the UZH Department of Economics to develop a holistic understanding of the diverse constellations and socioeconomic outcomes shaped by these variables.

Researchers at the LRF CEB will aim to close knowledge gaps surrounding the sociocultural and economic aspects of breastfeeding, and their long-term effects, with the goal to build bridges to policy formation and program implementation.

They will also have the opportunity to interface with researchers at the Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center for Neurodevelopment, Growth and Nutrition of the Newborn, established at UZH to investigate the neurodevelopmental mechanisms that influence child and youth development, and researchers at the Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Shanghai Breastfeeding Research Center*, a hub for globally focused epidemiological investigations into critical questions surrounding breastfeeding-related physiology and best practices.
