...Women and Girls in Science!
The University of Oxford PhD Student is the first-ever FLRF Fellowship awardee, and she’s researching breastfeeding to improve health outcomes for Small Vulnerable Newborns.
“We want to understand how maternal and infant illnesses impact breastmilk production and breastfeeding success. The Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to investigate with two lenses – molecular biology and endocrinology – and collaborate with international experts in two labs. I’m so excited to work on such an impactful project,” says Bryony.
Bryony is working across two of five independent research centers endowed by FLRF and forming the Global Human Milk Research Consortium (GHMRC). Her project is called: ‘Impact of maternal and infant morbidity on secretory activation’. Her mentors are Prof. Fadil Hannan, LRF OCEHL, University of Oxford and Prof. Lars Bode, LRF MOMI CORE, University of California San Diego.
Congratulations, Bryony – we’re excited to follow your progress!
The GHMRC exists to spark fresh ideas and innovations in health through interdisciplinary collaboration and projects like Bryony’s.
