PROVIDE – ein Schulungskompendium zur Versorgung von Frühgeborenen mit Muttermilch auf der Neugeborenen-Intensivstation – wurde vom RUSH University Medical Center in Chicago (USA) entwickelt, um medizinisches Fachpersonal weltweit bei der Implementierung lebensrettender Versorgungspraktiken für Säuglinge in Intensivpflege mit Muttermilch zu unterstützen.
Basierend auf der Erkenntnis, dass die Muttermilchernährung von intensivstationierten Frühgeborenen und Säuglingen mit sehr geringem Geburtsgewicht das Risiko vieler Komplikationen der Frühgeburtlichkeit und die damit verbundenen Kosten reduziert, hat das RUSH University Medical Center in Zusammenarbeit mit FLRS ein Projekt ins Leben gerufen, das sich auf die Ausweitung der Muttermilchernährung auf andere Neugeborenen-Intensivstationen konzentriert.
Das Ergebnis ist PROVIDE. Dieses frei zugängliche, faktenbasierte Kompendium umfasst 7 Kategorien, darunter 34 Lehrvideos und 23 Merkblätter.
Ursprünglich unter dem Projektnamen Translating Research to Practice: Evidence-Based Toolkit to Optimize Mothers' Own Milk Feeding in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) bekannt, verfolgt das Projekt unter der Leitung von Professorin Paula P. Meier folgende Ziele:
