Therapeutic or toxic? Investigating four common herbs taken to boost breastmilk production
While breastfeeding women worldwide use various galactagogues to promote their breastmilk production, little scientific data about the efficacy, possible side effects and toxicity of herbal galactagogues is available.
Thus, the Whitehead Institute of Biomedical Research, supported by FLRF, is working to increase our understanding by identifying the lactation-promoting compounds in four herbal galactagogues – goat’s rue, fenugreek, thistle and moringa – and evaluate their safety and efficacy.
