The latest communities looking toward the IP21 international growth standards and evidence-based feeding recommendations for preterm infants are in ...
... semi-urban regions in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Lodwar, Kenya.
Healthcare professionals from neonatal units in both countries recently completed trainings for implementing INTERPRACTICE-21st (IP21), designed to promote optimal growth until six months of age for infants born preterm.
They join over 300 other healthcare institutions and more than 2,000 professionals worldwide to have introduced the new preterm postnatal growth standards and evidence-based feeding interventions in their practice.
“For us, the direct contact with healthcare professionals in places where many scientists never go is one of the most rewarding and interesting aspects of the work. These are the real heroes of medicine.”
– José Villar, MD, MPH, MSc, FRCOG, Professor of Perinatal Medicine, Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, University of Oxford; Co-Director, Oxford Maternal & Perinatal Health Institute (OMPHI), Green Templeton College
The IP21 Project is the next phase of the INTERGROWTH-21st project of The Global Health Network of the University of Oxford.
